How Beavers Increase Tree Populations

#beavers #ecology #permaculture #nature

Beavers eat the cambian layer under the bark of poplar trees to survive the winter. They cut trees in the fall store them under water so that they have a larder under the ice. As a result of cutting the tree down new sprouts emerge from the poplar giving it new life. From the outside it may appear that beavers and trees are at odds with each other but they are actually mutually beneficial and co-evolved with each other.
